As a valued member of the UBC School of Journalism, Writing, and Media and the Coordinated Arts Program, Dr. Manià inspired countless students through thoughtful teaching, meaningful mentorship, and a deep commitment to inclusive education. Known for intellectual brilliance paired with genuine kindness, Dr. Manià created spaces where creativity, critical thinking, and community flourished.

Friends, colleagues, and students remember Dr. Manià as a passionate advocate for education and storytelling, someone whose words and guidance profoundly shaped the lives of many. In honor of Dr. Manià’s memory, the BC, Musqueam, and UBC flags were lowered on May 26, 2026, at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre in a powerful tribute to a life devoted to learning and service.

Dr. Kirby Jessie Manià is survived by loving family members, friends, colleagues, former students, and all those touched by their wisdom and generosity.
